Soft Flesh, Volatile Insides

Soft Flesh, Volatile Insides emanates from a deeply rooted exploration of the intricate interplay between the human body and societal expectations, refracted through the lens of intersectional feminism. This ongoing inquiry endeavors to unravel the dichotomy inherent within the corporeal experience, juxtaposing it against the external constructs and norms imposed by society. At its core, this thesis delves into the complexities of embodiment, dissecting how societal perceptions mold and “Other” the body. Silber Gallery.

Goddesses, Myths and Monsters

Goddesses, Myths and Monsters features figurative cyanotype prints, sculptural pieces and interactive journals. Throughout the space, invasive vines and dead spotted lanternflies symbolize the embattled ecosystem within women’s bodies, contending deeply embedded narratives of misogyny. Together this will provide an immersive, engaging “spectacle” that will draw the viewers into a magical realm from which to re-see the familiar concepts of “motherhood” and “womanhood.”

This exhibition by artist and poet Phyllis Berger explores the remarkable true story of Jews and resistance fighters hidden in Amsterdam’s ARTIS Zoo during the Nazi occupation. Through infrared photography, archival materials, wartime ephemera, and poetic narrative, Onderduiker reveals a powerful history of courage, concealment, and survival. Also featured are reproductions of works by Dutch Jewish artists inspired by the zoo and an interactive digital component by ARTIS historian Wessel Brookhuis. On view in the Rosenberg Gallery.
